Best Shampoo/Conditioner for Colored-Hair

Best Shampoo/Conditioner for Colored-Hair

I have been coloring my hair since I was in my early teenage years, and throughout those years my hair has suffered some damage from all of the hair dye and styling tools. Most people would say to avoid creating more damage to your hair, you should stop coloring it and limit your use of styling
tools, which is true. However, it is not realistic for most people to never style their hair or touch up their roots. I, like many other people out there, like to style my hair now and then, and I can't stand when my roots grow out too much. So, if we are going to use hot tools and dye your hair, what can you do to help your hair look as healthy as possible?

The first thing you want to consider when trying to make your damaged hair more healthy is: How often do you wash your hair? To prevent drying out your hair as much as possible, you will want to limit washing your hair with shampoo to three to four times a week. The routine I like to follow with washing my hair during a week's time period is the following:

Day 1: Wash all of the hair with shampoo and conditioner.

Day 2: Body shower only.

Day 3: Wash only the roots of the hair with shampoo, and condition all of the hair.

Day 4: Body shower only.

Day 5: Wash all of the hair with shampoo and conditioner.

Day 6: Body shower only.

Day 7: Wash only the roots of the hair with shampoo, and condition all of the hair.

Note: You can add a deep conditioner once or twice a week depending on how damaged your hair is.

By limiting the amount of shampooing you do throughout the week, it can help your hair from drying out too much. When you shampoo your hair too much, your hair can be stripped of its natural oils causing your hair to become more dry and look more dull. The root is the section of hair that gets oily the quickiest, this is why it is okay to shampoo that part of the hair more often. Since it produces oil, it can tend to need to be washed more often than the ends of the hair. By using a conditioner every time you wash your hair, you can help restore moisture where the hair needs it especially at the ends where the most dry and damaged part tends to be.

Note: Using a quarter-sized amount of shampoo and conditioner is plenty to execute a good wash.

I have used many different shampoos and conditioners on my hair from drugstore to high-end and there are a lot of wonderful brands out there, but the shampoo and conditioner I am loving is by Wella. In particular, it is the Wella Brilliance line. The Brilliance line has two kinds of shampoos and conditioners, one is for Fine to Normal Hair and the second is for Coarse Hair. These products come in 10 oz and 33 oz bottles. I personally use the Fine to Normal Hair because my hair is on the finer side even though I have a lot of strands of hair. The Brilliance Shampoo is a light-weight pearl formula that is not too heavy and leaves the hair feeling clean without leaving any sort of residue behind. It lathers when washing your hair which is something I know a lot of people look for in a shampoo. The Brilliance Conditioner is a a heavier cream forumla that immediately makes your hair feel soft and leaves a beautiful shine when it is dry. Both the shampoo and conditioner have a light fragrance that smells great but is not too over-powering so it does not compete with perfumes or body sprays.

After washing and towel drying your hair, you will want to either let it air dry and brush it when it has dried completely, or use a wide-toothed comb or Wet Brush while it is still wet. I personally like to use a Wet Brush because my hair is very curly so if I let it air dry without brushing it, it becomes very knotted. Using a wide-toothed comb or Wet Brush helps brush out the hair without pulling out the hair or breaking off the ends. This is ideal for maintaining the healthiest hair possible. The less breakage and damage done to the hair, the better it looks.
